Course Overview

Designed for anyone interested in personal protection with a shotgun. Through a combination of lecture, discussion, dry-fire and live fire drills students will develop familiarization and proficiency with their personal shotgun. Training topics include a Use of Force Overview, Patterning, Ammunition Selection, Modifications & Options, Ready Conditions, Stance, Mounting & Recoil Mitigation, Preparatory Gun Handling, Emergency and Tactical Loading, Combative Application & Self Patterning. This class is ideal for home defense with your smoothbore. It is set up for the Remington 870, 1100, 1187 and Mossberg 500 and 590 platforms but other platforms can and have been used in this class effectively.

Student Equipment

Standard range attire while conducting firearms training; weather-appropriate active-wear, brimmed hat, quality shoes or boots etc.
A serviceable shotgun chambered in 12 or 20 gauge with cleaning supplies.
Shotgun Sling (if desired, NOT required).
300 rounds of quality lead (lead only, we will be shooting steel) birdshot, 20 rounds 00Buckshot
Dump pouch/ammunition carry system (belt or chest mounted).
Hearing protection and Wrap around Eye protection - we will be shooting on steel, side of eye protection is mandatory
Sunscreen (if desired).
A handgun is not required for Progressive Shotgun 1.
If you bring a handgun be aware the *** Blackhawk Serpa model holsters are strictly prohibited during live fire range training and banned in all PFC Training classes for safety reasons. For copies of PFC’s and the Federal Government’s policies regarding the use of Blackhawk Serpa holsters, contact PFC HQ.

Dining

Breaks will be offered throughout the class. Bring sufficient water and snacks for consumption during these breaks, if desired. Dining off-site will not be available during lunchtime, so it is recommended that you bring lunch with you for the day.
